Description
Brinly’s BS-26BH tow-behind broadcast spreader makes it easy to attain a dense, green yard. Its large rust-proof polyethylene hopper holds 2.5 cubic feet (125 lbs.) of material, making it ideal for homeowners with lawns ½ acre and larger. Use your spreader every season of the year to apply grass seed, fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, even sand and ice melting agents.
Regular lawn feeding, weed control, overseeding and pest elimination help keep your lawn healthy, vibrant and growing strong. Regular fertilization, annual seeding and eliminating harmful insects allows your lawn’s root system to grow thicker, crowding out opportunistic weeds and giving it the resilience it needs to survive the stresses of heat, drought and foot traffic.
The tubular steel frame, powder-coat finish, enclosed nylon gears and stainless steel interior hardware prevent rust and corrosion. The patented Directional Spread Pattern Control feature allows the user to adjust for different particle sizes and weights, providing uniform coverage for a beautiful stripe-free lawn. Like it’s larger brother the BS36BH broadcast spreader, the BS-26BH uses our Autoflow™ design to automatically stop the flow of material when you stop your mower, eliminating waste and turf burn from overapplication.

Do I need to install chains on the wheels to ensure they don't slide on snow/ice?
While it is not required, adding chains may give you an added sense of stability as you use the spreader on snow/ice. You may consider the use of chains on your Tractor/Mower as well. Safety is paramount as you apply your ice melt during the winter months!
My lawn is bumpy and full of mole holes. This causes my spreader to throw unevenly, what can I do?
A bumpy lawn can cause problems with spreaders. Uneven throwing and excess jostling can also disrupt the amount of material spread. There are a few ways to account for this issue. First, tire pressure can make rolling over bumps easier while still maintaining the necessary rolling capabilities. Second, lawn rollers are also an effective tool to level your lawn and remove trip hazards like mole hills.
Can my spreader spread sand?
You can spread sand with the Brinly spreaders. At present we do not offer a topdressing kit for our Brinly Spreaders.
The wheels are binding, what can I do?
Similarly to wheels slipping, wheels binding is often caused by the opposite issue. Broken Gears, lack of grease and -in some cases- gearbox covers can cause the transmission to bind. To check test to see if your transmission has broken gears that could be causing the wheels to stick, elevate the drive wheel and turn it by hand. If you hear any noises or rattling from your transmission this is a strong indication that your gears may be broken and need to be replaced.
My spreader fan keeps slipping down the unit, what can I do?
If your fan will not stay in place and remain on the axle you may need to replace your fan driver. The fan driver is a special washer that supports your fan and locks it to the axle. This piece can be pruchased online at the shop.brinly.com
All my gears and axles are turning but the fan blade won't spin. What can I do?

Does this spreader have an agitator to break up clumps of material being spread?
Yes, there is an Agitator Wire that helps to keep the media from clogging and prevent bridging of the media while you use your spreader.
Are the wheels plastic or steel?
These wheels have performed well for our spreaders for many years; the composite nylon rims won’t corrode from fertilizer the way steel rims will.
What speed should I go with my spreader?
For Push spreaders, a normal walking speed should adequately dispense materials. Since push spreading is a hands-on activity, the rate at which the wheels turn directly determines the speed of the spinner fan. If the unit is not throwing far enough -or vice versa- increase or decrease your walking speed. For Tow spreaders, going a steady speed of LESS THAN 5 miles per hour is crucial. Speeds in excess of this can strip and damage the gears. To ensure the longevity of the unit, always go slow with the spreader, full or empty.
How do I know which dial is right for my material?
To best determine which dial setting is right for your particular material, we recommend looking at the helpful dial setting tool in your manual. This information can be found on page 28 and varies.
What is the recommended tire pressure for the wheels?
The max tire pressure is 30 PSI
What is the hopper made out of?
The hopper is made out of heavy duty polypropylene*
Can I spread ice-melt with this spreader?
All our spreaders can dispense ice melt; however, if you are looking for an even application of ice melt and salt, we recommend our specifically designed 70lb ice melt spreader for large jobs.
What can my unit spread?
Depending on the Model of Brinly push spreader which you have, there are different capabilities. Primarily the Brinly 70lb Ice Melt Spreader versus the other push spreaders. The Brinly 50lb Push Spreader or Push Spreader with Deflector kit are capable spreaders that come with a grate and applicable spreader settings in the manual. This unit can spread almost anything (given moisture and granular do not clog the unit). This unit can also spread ice melt, however it may not do so well because of the gate size. For spreading Ice melt Salt, we recommend the Brinly 70lb Ice Melt Spreader. The difference between the Brinly 70lb Ice Melt Spreader and the other spreader in our line is the fact that this push spreader is made for spreading ice melt. As such, it is equipped with a different flow gate and agitator. The unit can also be used to spread seed, fertilizer, and lime if you wish.
What is the max spread width and the max spread pattern?
Depending on the model spreader and how fast you walk while spreading, Brinly spreaders cover a wide range of spreading from 3 feet to 12 feet.
How should I store my spreader when not in use?
All of the Brinly push spreaders come with a collapsible/removeable handle that should allow for hanging or easier storage of the unit. To ward off dry rot, it is best to store the unit (for the tires) out of direct sunlight and with the unit clean. Areas with regulated or semi regulated temperatures will increase the longevity of your ties.
I received two lock pins, do I put one on each wheel?
No, you engage the lock pin on one wheel only. Engaging both for regular use will strip the transmission. You are given the second lock pin to engage while spreading ice melt.
