Bingman, Alice Faye

WINSTON-SALEM 4/16/1944 - 6/16/2018 Mrs. Alice Faye Bingman, 74, of Franklin Drive, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 16, 2018. She was born on April 16, 1944 in Wilson County to the late Obie and Gertrude Ferral Bunn. She was of the Baptist faith and spent her working years in the food service industry. She married Mr. Robert L. Bingman on February 27, 1975. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a son, Ross Harrison; two sisters, Betty Jean Pollard and Barbara Ann Butler; and two brothers, Randall Bunn and Jerry Bunn. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Bingman of the home; daughter, Pamela Faye Harrison of Millers Creek; two brothers, Edward Bunn and wife Vicki of Feradina, Fl., and Billy Ray Bunn and wife Janice of Goldboro; sister, Geraldine Williams and husband Larry of Lucama; grandson, Aaron Harrison of Kinston; and two great-grandchildren. Carter, Dorothy Mae Brown

EAST BEND June 14, 1927 - June 20, 2018 Dorothy Mae Brown Carter, 91, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Yadkin County on June 14, 1927; daughter of the late Addison Leo Brown and Sattie Pearl Williams Brown. Dorothy was a devoted stay-at-home wife and a loving mother. She was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Friends Church, where she earned perfect attendance for over 50 years. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mt. Carmel Friends Church with Pastor Jeff Farmer and Rev. Larry Daniels Sr. officiating. She will lie in state from 9:00 am to 10:45 at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her three daughters, Joyce C. Holden (Steve), Debbie C. Cave and Alice C. Carter; three grandchildren, Daniel Starling (Mandy), Tracy Farmer (Jeff) and Toni Moxley (Matt); and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold P. WINSTON-SALEM June 20, 2018 Angels were dispatched from Heaven to usher Bishop A.D. "Dock" Davis Jr., into God's Heavenly Kingdom on June 20, 2018. He met the love of his life, Betty Brown Davis, and they were married after a six-month courtship in 1949. He was a faithful companion until death separated them after 60 years in 2009. They were blessed with 13 children, 10 sons (Minister Matthew, Minister Isaiah (Vickie), Thomas (Clara Stevens), Dock III, Timothy, Elder Samuel (Denice), Daniel, Elder David (Lenora), James, and Elder Titus (LaToya) Davis; three daughters, Betty Davis-Simpson, Vickie Davis-Boyd (Waddell) and Debbie Lewis. His earthly pilgrimage, which lasted 93 years, began on May 28, 1925 in Richland County, S.C. where he was born to A.D. "Dock" Davis, Sr. and Pearl Bright Davis, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were five sisters, Alberta (Eloice) Boyd, Nancy Richardson, Marie (James) Dixon, Julia Davis, and Francis Boyd, and three brothers, Harrison (Bernice), Henry and William "Dan" (Thomasina) Davis. He is survived by one sister, Mother Elizabeth (Amos) Griffin and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. Bishop Davis accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, and after receiving the Holy Ghost, began his ministry career at the age of 17 in 1942 at the Way of the Cross Church in Columbia, S.C. He attended Jones Williams Theology Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland, while working on the Shipyards in Baltimore, Md. from 1943-1949. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1955 and served as assistant pastor at Progressive Church of Jesus until founding Mount Olive Apostolic Church in 1969, where he remained pastor until his death. He was a long-standing board member of the United Churches of Jesus Apostolic. He lived by a simple motto: "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14). Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 10:30 at Mount Olive Apostolic Church, followed by services at 11:00. At his request, there will be no public viewing. Arrangements by Douthit's.

LAKE MARY, FL 08/24/1935 - 06/17/2018 Mother Zelma Smith Davis, 82, was born to the late Harvey Smith and Treaty Smith on August 24, 1935. She departed this life on June 17, 2018. She was educated in the Wake County Public Schools and graduated from Johnson County Training School. She later moved to W-S, NC where she joined Temple Holiness Church where she began her spiritual walk and became known as a great woman of faith and prayer. Soon after she met Robert James Davis and the two were wed. She was employed in the custodial and laundry departments at Silas Creek Manor and was a CNA at Winston-Salem Convalescent Center. Many years after her retirement she moved to Lake Mary, FL with her daughter, Belinda, where she spent 9 years serving at 'The Word Center'. She is survived by her children, Bobby Alton, Bobbie Jean, Vethilla Diann (Jesse), Robertina Denise, Belinda Ann, and Christopher James (Faith); siblings, Forrest and Victoria; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Temple Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, AL 9/18/23 - 6/18/2018 Mr. James Paul (Jimmie) Dolan Sr., 95, died peacefully at his home on Magnolia River, Alabama on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the age of 95. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy Mae (Dot) Carter Dolan of Magnolia Springs; six children, Dotsie (Dicky) Brabner Magnolia Springs, Paul Dolan, Jr. Magnolia Springs, Theresa (Wayne) Hinshaw Winston-Salem, John Dolan Winston-Salem, Mary (Dr Paul) Settle Danville, VA, David Dolan Kernersville NC; one brother, Rev. William R. Dolan Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie attended St. Mary Elementary School and McGill Institute Catholic High School in Mobile, AL and later served in the United States Army during WW II. Afterwards, he began a long career selling Ford automobiles. After several years at dealerships in Mobile he moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he enjoyed many years serving as sales manager for his friend and mentor, June Michaels, and later for his friend, June's son, Junie. The family wishes to extend a special note of appreciation to Jimmie's nephews, Joseph A. (Mac) McAleer, Jr. and Charles C. (Charlie) Dolan III for their frequent and faithful friendship to Jimmie especially during his final years on Magnolia River. A funeral was held Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Magnolia Springs with burial in the church cemetery. CLEMMONS Jan. 22, 1926 - Jun. 19, 2018 Mrs. Elizabeth Harmon, passed away June 19, 2018 at Forsyth Hospital. She had such a great faith in the Lord and shared it with her family and whoever she came in contact with. She always insisted we use correct grammar and I just failed her. Sorry Mom. Lib was born in Clarksville, TN January 22, 1926 to Aileen and William Dickerson and grew up in Spartanburg, SC with her 9 brothers and sisters. She attended Virginia Intermont College and graduated from High Point College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She met her husband, James Garland Harmon there and they were married right after graduation. They lived in Raleigh where 2 of their children were born and later in Richmond where their youngest was born. The next move was to Columbia, SC and to listen to all of us remember those years, they were the happiest. The last move was to Winston Salem where Lib taught in the WS school system for 30 years. After retiring she was busier than ever volunteering at The Enrichment Center, Forsyth Prison Ministry, Forsyth Hospital ICU and her favorite - telling stories to the students at Northwest Elementary School. Her brothers and sisters and husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Phil of Staunton, VA, Colleen Ransom (Randy) of Clemmons, NC and Dicky Harmon (Jan) of Clemmons, NC, her 7 grandchildren and her 10 great-grandchildren. The Family would like to thank the staff at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living, especially those in the Horizons Unit, where Lib spent her final years. In addition, the family wants to thank the staff in the Forsyth Hospital Palliative Care unit who gave Lib such gentle care and gave her family such peace. Johnston, Larry W.

EAST BEND August 22, 1946 - June 21, 2018 Mr. Larry W. Johnston, 71, of East Bend left his earthly body to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday June 21, 2018. Mr. Johnston was born on August 22, 1946 in Forsyth County to the late James W. Johnston and Eva Wilhelm Johnston. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny W. Johnston. Mr. Johnston proudly served his county in the Vietnam era and retired from RJ Reynolds after 37 years. Mr. Johnston married his highschool sweetheart, Ruth. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren and family and taught them to appreciate God's wonders, such as the moon, stars, and sunsets. As a true Christian, death is only the beginning. Psalm 23: The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth of the home; one son Terry W. Johnston and wife Joy of Mount Airy; one brother, George W. Johnston and wife "Boots" of East Bend; two sisters Mary Catherine Matthews and husband Jerry and Barbara Johnston, both of East Bend; two grandchildren, Abbie and Landon W. KING Nov. 19, 1943 - June 19, 2018 Jerleene Southern Lindley, 74, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Accordius Health at Lexington. She was born on November 19, 1943 in Forsyth Co. the daughter of the late Grady Lee Southern and Arrella Byrd Southern. Mrs. Lindley was a Christian women, loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She attended Harvest Temple Church of God in King and was involved with many activities within the church. Mrs. Lindley enjoyed knitting, sewing and being outdoors working in her garden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Lindley, Sr.; and a sister, Joann White. WINSTON-SALEM 02/12/1947 - 06/18/2018 Malcolm Gordon Perdue, 71, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018. He was born in Rockingham County February 12, 1947, to Cary Glenn and Elizabeth Griffin Perdue. An alumnus of East Forsyth High School, he graduated with the class of 1965 and was an outstanding baseball player. Mr. Perdue was self-employed as a plumber. He loved people, especially his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kay Owen. He is survived by a brother, Bobby Perdue (Dorothy). Taylor, Doris Day

KERNERSVILLE February 15, 1931 - June 20, 2018 Mrs. Doris Day Taylor, 87, died June 20, 2018 at her home. She was born February 15, 1931 to the late Press Lewis Day and Ada Day. Doris grew up in a large family, seven girls and three boys, all from North Wilkesboro. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved gardening, flowers, and the variety of song birds. She worked for over 20 years at Union Cross Elementary School in the school cafeteria, where her son also went to elementary school. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anchorage, Alaska, after her husband was discharged from the military, they then transferred their membership to Salem Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, and later attended Gospel Light Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Allen Taylor. Surviving are her loving husband, Glenn Taylor; her son, Mel Glenn Taylor (Jan); three granddaughters, Marie McMillian, Kelly West, Kristin Cordes; one grandson, Zachary Taylor (Sun). She is blessed with twelve great-grandchildren. A service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. WINSTON-SALEM 11/21/1991 - June 5, 2018 Joe Woestendiek, 26, died June 18 at Regional One Health in Memphis, Tenn. He was injured in a car accident on June 5. Joseph Yoon Tae Woestendiek was born in Taegu, South Korea, on Nov. 23, 1991, and was adopted when he was five months old. He is a graduate of Florence High School in Florence, Ala., and the University of Mississippi, where he earned a B.S. in computer science from the School of Engineering. He lived in New Albany, Miss., and was employed in the information technology department of Automated Conveyor Systems, Inc., of West Memphis, Ark. Joe is survived by his parents, John Woestendiek of Winston-Salem, N.C , and Jenny and Wayne Mitchell of New Albany, Miss; his grandmother, Janis Swartz of New Albany; his step brother, Jon Mitchell, wife Mary, and family, Ashburn, Va.; his step sister, Morgan Hunt and family, Pittsburgh, Pa.; uncles Ted Woestendiek and James Wong, Winston-Salem, N.C.; aunt and uncle Donna and Homer Lawrence, Lee's Summit, Mo.; aunt and uncle Kathryn and John Scepanski of Madison, Wis.; many cousins, friends and pets. He was preceded in death by his grandmother and namesake, Jo Woestendiek, a reporter for many years at the Winston-Salem Journal. Joe spent summers in Winston-Salem and served as a volunteer for the Forsyth Humane Society, walking dogs and occasionally serving, in dog costume, as mascot. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oxford, Miss., at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 29. An additional informal memorial get-together will be held in the near future in Winston-Salem. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C.
